Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) Cryptographic Mandates

Deploys cryptographic trust infrastructure at /.well-known/ap2/mandates.json using dedicated ECDSA P-256 keys, verifiable JWS mandate signatures, spending thresholds, and PostgreSQL revocation ledgers.

Executive Summary

The Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) Trust Layer issues and verifies ECDSA P-256 JWS cryptographic mandates (Cart and Intent mandates) so every autonomous agent transaction carries provable buyer authorization, spending limits, and non-repudiation.

ES256

ECDSA P-256 JWS cryptographic signing

100%

Verifiable non-repudiation audit trail

<15ms

Mandate signature verification time

Production Deliverables

  • Dedicated ECDSA P-256 keypair provisioning and public JWK publication
  • Signed /.well-known/ap2/mandates.json authority registry
  • Cart and Intent mandate verification middleware enforcing TTL and max-amount caps
  • Immutable PostgreSQL ap2_mandates ledger with instant revocation API

Deployment Sequence

01. Key Ceremony & JWK Publication

Generates isolated P-256 signing keys and exposes verifiable public JWK metadata.

02. Policy & Threshold Guardrails

Configures maximum autonomous spend ceilings, currency locks, and human-in-the-loop escalation rules.

03. Non-Repudiation Ledger

Stores signed JWS receipts and payload hashes in PostgreSQL for compliance and dispute defense.

Technical Questions & Specifications

Why do autonomous transactions require AP2 on top of standard TLS?

TLS only authenticates the network channel. AP2 cryptographically proves that a specific human or corporate principal authorized an agent to spend up to a defined ceiling with a specific merchant prior to execution.

Can a corporate buyer revoke an active agent mandate immediately?

Yes. Every mandate carries a unique mandate_id checked against our real-time revocation table before checkout settlement.
